Black History Month
Back many years ago, a day seemed like a year
Laughter, joy and mere satisfaction were amongst fear
A life full of heartache, struggles and pain
Chained to a life of nothing gained
Kept by a master and his wife who claimed no shame.
Helpless, hopeless, beaten, starved and broken
Ill from poverty, a cry for help goes unspoken
Sadly tormented and forced to work or death
Taken lives while loved ones watched as they took their last breath.
Obsessed with dreams of freedom and living free
Rage is the only feeling you can connect with intensively
Yelling, falling to your knees having no identity
Motionless because of being bound and tied
Oppressed by the ruthless who grinned and lied
Nervousness riddles your insides
Testimonies of our ancestors will surely provide
Healing of our hearts and minds as they confide
THE TRUTH!!!
LET US BE FREE!
LET US LIVE!
THE TIME HAS COME!!
